How to Get Rid of Acne (Pimples)?

We studied in biology that our skin is our largest organ.
Thanks to natural wonder (God' gift) our skin cells are constantly replacing themselves, making a journey from the inner edge of your epidermis (your skin's outermost layer) to the outside of your skin.

As our skin cell ages, the dying cell flattens out. Once on the surface, it joins countless other dead skin cells and forms a protective layer that helps protect you from bacteria and viruses. Inside our hair follicles, there are small glands producing oil called sebum. This oil mixes with skin cells in the follicle and joins them on the journey outward. And when there's too much sebum, too many dead skin cells or something on the surface that blocks their exit from the follicle, a blockage can occur. Further to that, bacteria joins the party, and the result is acne vulgaris, the most common form of acne.

While acne normally affects teenagers and older ones, anyone of any age can actually get acne. Our instinctual response is either picking at it, rubbing it and canceling our social engagements -- doesn't help in the least, but fortunately, there are some treatments available that can.

Therefore, what can we do to get rid of acne?

Here are 15 free tips on how to get rid of it quickly and safely:

1. Don't ever pinch, scratch, squeeze a pimple.
2. Apply an ice pack to the pimple
3.Cleanse your skin twice a day with mild soap
5. Try applying a cream or ointment containing benzyl peroxide or
salicylic acid
6. Wear oil-free makeup.
7. Apply toothpaste on the affected area right before bed can help soothe irritation and
reduce redness.

What are the Best Natural Antibiotics?

Source: Natural Antibiotics: Foods that Work as Antibiotics
by Dana Fenton/Healthy Living

Please also read other sources: Natural Antibiotics: A Comprehensive Guide
by Dr. Rajesh Vishwanathan
http://www.skrewtips.com/2009/08/06/natural-antibiotics/

“Everyone has a doctor in him or her; we just have to help it in its work. The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well. Our food should be our medicine. Our medicine should be our food. But to eat when you are sick is to feed your sickness.” - Hippocrates - Greek Physician (460 BC – 377 BC).

We recently came across an interesting article about antibiotics.
People are looking for answers to health issues and it is time to go back to mother nature and/or back to our kitchen to get back to healthy living. Have you ever asked how on earth do people in the early times heal or treat sicknesses.

Well, certain foods have been found to have qualities that act as a natural antibiotic on the human body.

Here is a list of foods that contain natural antibiotic qualities and properties and specific information relating to what it offers to a person health wise:

• Garlic: garlic has been a natural antibiotic used since ancient times. Garlic in the diet helps reduce cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure, and also helps thin the blood and acts as an expectorant and decongestant. In the past, garlic was used for its antimicrobial properties in World War I to treat typhus and dysentery, and during World War II it was used to ward off sepsis (blood poisoning). Modern research has shown that garlic has extensive antibiotic properties. Japanese, Russians, English and American scientists have conducted extensive research which shows a diet which contains regular amounts of garlic can reduce the risk of stroke, hypertension, tumors, and certain forms of cancer and can help with treatment of the common cold.

• Onions: a close relative of garlic, onions have also been shown to have excellent antibiotic properties with a history of usage dating back to ancient Rome. There is a long list of beneficial medicinal properties which has been directly attributed to the onion such as; herbal analgesia, anti-inflammatory substance, increases circulation, alleviating angina, and used in the treatment of the common cold and flu, and for people who have a persistent cough.

• Honey: has long been used as a traditional topical treatment for wound infections and has shown to be effective against certain antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains. Honey has been shown to have a broad range of antimicrobial action against a broad range of both fungi and bacteria. Further research is ongoing to determine further all the healthful benefits of honey’s antibiotic properties.

• Australian Tea Tree Oil: comes from a small, fragrant evergreen tree and is sold in health food stores. The substance can be applied topically to treat fingernail fungus, slow healing wounds and sores.

• Fruits containing vitamin C: fruits high in vitamin C are recommended because they can help stave off or eliminate certain infectious bacteria. Vitamin C is essential for growth and development, and serves in the function of skin repair. The substance is very important in wound healing, strengthens the human immune system and increases the body’s ability to resist infection. Studied first in the 1930’s by Dr. Fred Klenner at the University of North Carolina, the antibiotic action of vitamin C was shown to help patients heal from snake bites, viral and bacterial infections. Fruits rich in vitamin C include; kiwi, strawberries, oranges, pineapple, honeydew melon, mangoes, plums and watermelon.

• Vegetables rich in vitamin C: due to the high vitamin C content of some vegetables, the following foods can serve as a natural antibiotic as well; cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, tomatoes and spinach.
• Fermented foods: these are foods that are prepared with microorganisms, mainly bacteria. The foods can also be considered as a form of natural antibiotics because they reintroduce friendly bacteria into the body. Fermented foods are often recommended in conjunction with traditional antibiotic treatment because while the underlying disease is being treated and bacteria is being killed, a person will be less likely to develop a secondary infection due to the decrease of normal bacterial body flora.

• Eucalyptus: used as a powerful decongestant, has a very crisp, easy-to-recognize odor. Eucalyptus is a natural antiseptic which kills certain funguses, bacteria and viruses. Can be steeped and made into an herbal tea.

• Goldenseal: a powerful and potent immune system stimulant which medical research has shown to block streptococci bacteria from colonizing within the human body. Native American Indians have also used goldenseal in the treatment of certain types of fungal and protozoa infections.

Herbs that Also Contain Natural Antibiotic Qualities/Properties

The University of Colorado has also uncovered certain herbs which exhibit traits and qualities that mimic antibiotic actions in the human body:

• Allspice

• Anise
• Basil

• Bay leaf

• Caraway seed

• Cardamom

• Chili peppers

• Cinnamon

• Cloves
• Coriander

• Cumin
• Dill

• Fennel

• Ginger

Honey is said to be the ambrosia of the Gods.Chiropractors suggest using wild honey to help ease pollen allergies and coughs. Recently, a friend sent us this article which also been circulated on the internet.

Here are Facts on Honey and Cinnamon: It is found that a mixture of honey and cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a "Ram Ban" (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases.

Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients. Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada , in its issue dated 17 January, 1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists:

HAIR LOSS:

Ladies and gentlemen, here is a tip everyone would love to know. To help stimulate hair growth, apply a paste of one tablespoon of honey, hot olive oil and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder before taking a bath or shower. Effects are said to be experienced with even five minutes worth of application, although 15 minutes are recommended.

HEART DISEASES:

Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada , various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins.

ARTHRITIS:

Arthritis patients may take daily, morning, and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS:

Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.

TOOTHACHE:

Beauty starts with a good smile? Well, make a paste of one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and five teaspoons of honey and apply on the aching tooth. This may be applied three times a day until the tooth stops aching.

CHOLESTEROL:

Take note on this one. Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS:

Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses.

UPSET STOMACH:

Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.

GAS:

According to the studies done in India and Japan , it has been revealed that if honey is taken with cinnamon powder, the stomach would be relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM:

Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder can strengthen the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacteria and viral diseases.

INDIGESTION:

Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food would help to relieve acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA:

A scientist (sorry, no name was provided) in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural Ingredient which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

LONGEVITY:

This is an interesting one. At least, we all should age with grace. Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon powder and three cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increases and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

WEIGHT LOSS:

Take it daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach and at night before sleeping. Recommended: Drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

FATIGUE:

Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than! than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. (yes, in the afternoon) when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week.

CANCER:

Recent researches in Japan and Australia have revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day.

What can I do to protect myself from catching influenza A (H1N1)?

Do you know anyone in the close proximity have fever, runny nose, sore throat, etc.?
There are continuous headlines about the H1N1 virus, or swine flu? Read the following to get yourself educated on the topic and how to protect yourself from catching the virus. Pass this one blog link to others after reading it.

Updated as at 11 June 2009)

The main route of transmission of the new influenza A(H1N1) virus seems to be similar to seasonal influenza, via droplets that are expelled by speaking, sneezing or coughing. You can prevent getting infected by avoiding close contact with people who show influenza-like symptoms (trying to maintain a distance of about 1 metre if possible) and taking the following measures:-
  1. Avoid touching your mouth and nose;
  2. Clean hands thoroughly with soap and water, or cleanse them with an alcohol-based hand rub on a regular basis (especially if touching the mouth and nose, or surfaces that are potentially contaminated);
  3. Avoid close contact with people who might be ill;
  4. Reduce the time spent in crowded settings if possible;
  5. Improve airflow in your living space by opening windows;
  6. Practise good health habits including adequate sleep, eating nutritious food, and keeping physically active.
What about using a mask? What does WHO recommend?
If you are not sick you do not have to wear a mask.
If you are caring for a sick person, you can wear a mask when you are in close contact with the ill person and dispose of it immediately after contact, and cleanse your hands thoroughly afterwards.

When and how to use a mask?
If you are sick and must travel or be around others, cover your mouth and nose.
Using a mask correctly in all situations is essential. Incorrect use actually increases the chance of spreading infection.

How do I know if I have influenza A(H1N1)?
You will not be able to tell the difference between seasonal flu and influenza A(H1N1) without medical help. Typical symptoms to watch for are similar to seasonal viruses and include fever, cough, headache, body aches, sore throat and runny nose. Only your medical practitioner and local health authority can confirm a case of influenza A(H1N1).

What should I do if I think I have the illness?
  • If you feel unwell, have high fever, cough or sore throat:
    stay at home and keep away from work, school or crowds;
  • Rest and take plenty of fluids;
  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing and, if using tissues, make sure you dispose of them carefully. Clean your hands immediately after with soap and water or cleanse them with an alcohol-based hand rub;
  • If you do not have a tissue close by when you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth as much as possible with the crook of your elbow;
  • Use a mask to help you contain the spread of droplets when you are around others, but be sure to do so correctly; inform family and friends about your illness and try to avoid contact with other people;
  • If possible, contact a health professional before traveling to a health facility to discuss whether a medical examination is necessary.
Should I take an antiviral now just in case I catch the new virus?
No. You should only take an antiviral, such as oseltamivir or zanamivir, if your health care provider advises you to do so. Individuals should not buy medicines to prevent or fight this new influenza without a prescription, and they should exercise caution in buying antivirals over the Internet.

Notes for mothers:
What about breastfeeding? Should I stop if I am ill?
No, not unless your health care provider advises it. Studies on other influenza infections show that breastfeeding is most likely protective for babies - it passes on helpful maternal immunities and lowers the risk of respiratory disease. Breastfeeding provides the best overall nutrition for babies and increases their defense factors to fight illness.

When should someone seek medical care?
A person should seek medical care if they experience shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, or if a fever continues more than three days. For parents with a young child who is ill, seek medical care if a child has fast or labored breathing, continuing fever or convulsions (seizures).

Supportive care at home - resting, drinking plenty of fluids and using a pain reliever for aches - is adequate for recovery in most cases. (A non-aspirin pain reliever should be used by children and young adults because of the risk of Reye's syndrome.)

Should I go to work if I have the flu but am feeling OK?
No. Whether you have influenza A(H1N1) or a seasonal influenza, you should stay home and away from work through the duration of your symptoms. This is a precaution that can protect your work colleagues and others.

Can I travel?If you are feeling unwell or have symptoms of influenza, you should not travel. If you have any doubts about your health, you should check with your health care provider.
